Addicting Games Goes from 2021 To 2022 And Beyond

posted on Tuesday, 04/01/2022, 6:04 AM

2021 was a big year for us here at Addicting Games and we think 2022 is going to be even better. Don’t believe us? Well, you'll just have to stick around and see what we do next. We’re certain that you’ll be convinced that the last decade or so of pumping out fun, free casual games week after week was just the beginning! We haven’t peaked we were just building momentum! Before we unleash on 2022 and show it what we can really do, we’re giving you a quick little recap on some of the biggest things to happen with us in 2021.

2021 started off strong with our favorite “Little Big Snake that could” slithering its way over onto Discord and turning its writhing fan base into a thriving community. You should never underestimate the power inherent in coming together as a community. The Discord allows players to share fan art, talk to the developers, pitch ideas, share videos of their greatest hits --and deaths-- form tribes and just maybe make a friend or two! If you like Little Big Snake but haven’t made the jump to the Discord, then friend, your time has come! Head over to ow.ly/HLPe50EcN91 and sign up now!

This was also the year that we dropped a new classic IOgame: Ev.io. Imagine the breadth and depth of a classic first-person shooter that you can sit down and play in the comfort of your own browser without downloading any new software or logging into anything. Ev.io offers multiple game modes, a ton of maps, endless customization options, and a steady drip of new weapons that will help you optimize your fighter to the nth degree. Ev.io is more than another first-person shooter because let’s face it: first-person shooters are a dime a dozen these days. Ev.io transcends the surly bonds of the genre by combing the best elements of your favorite games with new interpretations of classic maps and original weapons that can’t help but feel a little familiar. If you haven’t played Ev.io after a year’s worth of upgrades and expansions: what are you waiting for? Head on over to Ev.io and get gaming now!  If you’re already a player but haven’t jumped on the Discord to fully immerse yourself in the culture and community then hightail it over to ev.io and find out for yourself what all the hype is about.

Going into the third quarter of 2021 we took surprised everyone again by announcing that Flash ain’t going anywhere. You remember Flash, don’t you? The Actionscript-based platform that was responsible for the dumbest early internet website intros and the genesis of the casual gaming revolution? Well, for a long time people were counting down the days to the end of Flash. First Apple wouldn’t support it on its mobile devices and then browser by browser announced that they would no longer be supporting it after one update or another. We all thought we were going to have to kiss Flash and all related games goodbye, but then Ruffle showed up and changed the game. Ruffle is an independently developed emulator which can be added by an administrator to any site to retro-fit Flash games and allow them to be played. It requires no downloads, no logins, no installations, all you gotta do is click on a game and play, play, play. And if you’re looking for games then we should let you know that we kind of have a lot of them, basically all of them, or at least the best Flash games of the last 15 years.

If you find yourself sitting around, twiddling your thumbs, not leaving the house these days --for some reason-- then feel free to click into literally any of our categories and start playing your favorite old Flash games or discover something new!
If unveiling our entire inventory of Flash games right when the entire world thought that the technology was dead wasn’t a cool enough trick then hold on to your hats because this was around the same time we acquired another classic IO game. Diep.io is a modern classic IO game that simulates minimalistic tank battles in a massive monotone arena. Tank games are a standard of the casual gaming world and Diep.io has long proven itself to be the best of the contemporary interpretations. Maybe it is the minimalism, maybe its the ease of play, maybe it’s the tough tactical choices you have to make second after second, but something about Diep.io has just clicked with gamers around the world and we are proud to add it to our stable of original games as we sail into the future.

OK, we’d be remiss if we didn’t talk about the elephant in the room. We were acquired by Enthusiast gaming. It was kind of a big deal. The 35 million dollar acquisition went down in TK and came as a surprise to many who follow the gaming sphere. But really if you look at the Enthusiasts model, what Addicting Games has to offer, and how we are able to synergize with them to create something new, something better, then maybe it isn’t such a surprise. Our catalog of original games is really unmatched in the casual sphere and that doesn’t even take into consideration a bottomless pit of Flash games or our sister sites like Typeracer.com, Mathgames.com, and Shockwave.com. We’re excited to be a part of the Enthusiast family and we can’t wait to show them and you everything we’re capable of in the coming days, weeks, months, and years.

As for our plans, our machinations, and all the tricks and treats we’ll be leaning on and whipping out in the year to come, well you’re just going to have to wait to see what we have in store. If you thought 2021 was a banner year ripe with new properties, new avenues of growth, and unprecedented growth then you’re gonna flip your Schmitt when you see what we’re gonna do next.

This has been 2021 and we are, have been, and will always be Addicting Games.
