Apparently, Rockstar’s call to Justice wasn’t the first band they tried to dial. Reports claim Rockstar offered Daft Punk an “unlimited budget” to work on the GTA VI soundtrack, but the iconic French duo turned down the offer.

With Grand Theft Auto 6 launching in basically a month, Rockstar is ramping up its marketing campaign both online and in person. From events across Miami and other locations to the brand-new trailer featuring a stunning track from Justice, Rockstar is pulling out all the stops to promote GTA VI.
However, according to a report from hasitleaked, which has covered Daft Punk news for several years, Rockstar Games also approached the iconic French duo about working on the GTA VI soundtrack.
In a post on X, hasitleaked reported that:
“Daft Punk’s management (yes, still exist) were pitched “a final comeback” of the duo for the GTAVI soundtrack with what was “essentially an unlimited budget”. Justice were Rockstar’s second choice.”

Daft Punk disbanded in 2021, but the duo has continued to celebrate its legacy by releasing anniversary editions of its iconic albums. The group also made its way into Fortnite in 2025 with the “Daft Punk Experience.” This collaboration introduced a handful of cosmetics, including skins, in-game events, and several activities.
Despite stepping away from the spotlight, Daft Punk continues to promote its music and celebrate its legacy. However, even Rockstar’s reportedly “unlimited budget” couldn’t convince the duo to create new music for GTA VI.
That doesn’t mean fans won’t hear Daft Punk in the game, though. Rockstar could still feature the duo’s existing tracks on one of the many radio stations coming to GTA VI, giving players another chance to cruise through Vice City with some iconic French electronic music.
