Today is a sad and shocking day for the gaming industry. BioWare, the legendary studio behind some of gaming’s most unforgettable RPGs, has reportedly announced its closure after more than 30 years in the industry. The company brought us incredible worlds and stories in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age, Neverwinter Nights, the original Baldur’s Gate games, and, of course, Mass Effect. Now, an era of gaming history is coming to an end.

Had to Be Me…

BioWare has reportedly announced that its studio is shutting down, bringing an end to more than three decades of creating unforgettable worlds, characters, and memories. Alongside the studio’s closure, the upcoming Mass Effect project, which was still in early development, is also ending.

This is a massive shock, not only to fans and the community, but to the gaming industry as a whole. At the time of writing, few details have emerged about why BioWare is reportedly closing its doors. However, fans are already beginning to piece together possible explanations.

One theory points to EA’s $55 billion deal to go private earlier this year. Some fans believe the decision could be tied to the consortium behind the deal, which includes Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners, and Silver Lake.

Of course, there is currently no official confirmation that the deal has anything to do with BioWare’s reported closure. Until more details emerge, the reasons behind the situation remain unclear.

Either way, this is a devastating blow for fans of BioWare’s games and a massive loss for the gaming industry. Few studios have left such a lasting mark on RPGs, and the worlds BioWare created will continue to mean a great deal to the players who grew up exploring them.
