Jagex Cancels RuneScape Reignited After Veteran Player Concerns

Jagex just announced some shocking and unexpected news regarding RuneScape Reignited. The project is ultimately getting canceled. After tons and tons of community feedback, the devs are ultimately deciding to cancel the project as they wish to protect and preserve veteran players who have stuck with the game all these years, instead of isolating them.
The Invitation Remains
That’s right, it’s only been over a week since Runefest 2026, when Jagex announced a ton of new projects across its IPs, including RuneScape Reignited. But after the initial reveal, the community voiced a lot of their concerns. Many older members felt the new servers would force them to abandon their characters and start fresh to catch the wave of new players on a new server with a fresh economy.
Jagex heard players and announced they were going back to the drawing board. But now they’re coming out fully, saying the project is shutting down. But that doesn’t mean the Road to Restoration and all that new content are going to waste.
The Future of RuneScape

So, the roadmap is changing. Now the devs are offering a Return to RuneScape on December 2nd, giving new players a 10-day free trial to play alongside the Remastered Journey and Adventure Guide additions.
New plugin support is also rolling out in a few days, and all the content previously showcased in the Roadmap is still rolling out. This includes the Hoard of Dragons, City of Gnomes, and the Secrets of Karamja
All in all, RuneScape is taking a minor hit, but the future still looks bright for oldschool and new players!
