How to Preload GTA 6 on PS5 & Xbox (Opens November 12)

As always, there is a lot of news dropping around GTA VI, especially as the launch date grows ever closer. To ensure you’re prepared for that fateful night, we’ve prepared some extra steps you can take to preload GTA VI and get in as soon as possible when it drops.
Preloading on PS5 & Xbox

Firstly, let’s get the biggest details out of the way. You can only preload GTA VI if you have, of course, bought one of the many preorder versions. You can start preloading on November 12th, right at midnight, but only in your local time zone. So, you might be able to preload it even sooner if you set your console’s date to another time zone, but that shouldn’t be necessary since, again, the preload is on the 12th, whereas the official release date is November 19th.
If you are preloading GTA VI on PS5, all you need to do is go to the PlayStation Store, search for the upcoming game, and select the Pre-Order or price button to purchase it. Once you’ve bought a copy, go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings, then navigate to Automatic Updates.
Make sure you have Auto-Download and Auto-Install in Rest Mode enabled. You can also go to Power Saving settings in System, find Features Available in Rest Mode, and turn on Stay Connected to the Internet. This will enable your PS5 to predownload GTA VI as soon as possible, even if you’re asleep, as long as it’s in Rest Mode.
Preloading GTA VI on Xbox Series X or S works similarly. After you purchase a copy, press the Xbox button, then go to Profile & system > Settings> General> Power options. Then, in the Customize power options menu, check Keep my console up to date and Keep my games and apps up to date.
Boxed Code Redemption
If you plan to buy a “physical copy” of GTA VI, you’ll find a digital download code inside the case. To redeem it, go to your console’s store page and enter the code there. These copies should ship around November 12th, so you should still have time to predownload the game.
Storage Tips

Lastly, GTA VI will likely be a large game, so it’s best to clear out some of your storage backlog before you start the predownload. That way, you won’t have to start over or pause during the installation. You can find all the titles taking up space on your hard drive by navigating to your games or storage section of your console and uninstalling them.
We currently don’t know how big GTA VI will actually be, but just in case you’ve seen that 676GB rumor, it’s completely fake. However, who knows how big those day-one or week-one patches will be? You should finish up and uninstall some of those bigger games on your hard drive before November 19th rolls around.
