RuneScape is getting one of the biggest updates in years. Coming in November, RuneScape is getting a major late-game rebalance, bringing significant changes to boss drop rates, Slayer rewards, skilling, and equipment progression. Jagex outlined the upcoming changes in a new design preview as part of its ongoing Road to Restoration initiative, with the goal of making progression feel more rewarding while addressing long-standing balance issues.

Tier 100 Masterwork Armour Is Finally Here

One of the biggest changes is the long awaited introduction of Tier 100 Trimmed Masterwork Melee armour, giving melee players a high-level armour option to match Magic and Ranged.

Players who already own Trimmed Masterwork armour will automatically receive the new Tier 100 stats when the update launches. Meanwhile, players with standard Tier 90 Masterwork armour can upgrade their gear using Melee Armour Trim and Primed Glorious Bars.

The upgrade requires 110 Smithing and the achievement “It Still Should’ve Been Called Aetherium.” Standard Masterwork armour will remain Tier 90, and its existing requirements won’t change.

Boss and Slayer Drop Rates Get Major Buffs

Jagex is also making numerous boss rewards easier to obtain, with some of the biggest improvements affecting older encounters and their rare drops.

For example, the King Black Dragon’s Draconic Visage drop rate is improving from 1/5,000 to 1/252, while its Dragon Rider Gloves and Boots will go from 1/2,000 to 1/100. The Giant Mole’s Dragon 2h Sword drop rate is also increasing from 1/520 to 1/64.

High-level bosses aren’t being left out, either. Solak’s Blightbound Crossbows will become more common, Vorago’s Seismic Wand and Singularity will receive improved drop rates, and all four God Wars Dungeon 2 Crests will go from 1/256 to 1/128.

Slayer creatures will receive similar changes, making several rare weapons and equipment pieces significantly easier to acquire. Living Wyverns, Camel Warriors, and Ripper Demons will have improved drop rates for their signature weapons, particularly while players are completing Slayer tasks.

Jagex is also improving the availability of equipment such as Ascension Grips, Blast Diffusion Boots, and other Slayer rewards. Additionally, key pieces from Living Wyverns, Camel Warriors, Ripper Demons, and Acheron Mammoths will have a 1/100 drop rate for the Raptor’s Chest of Slaying.

Several Slayer Weapons Are Getting Stronger

Alongside the improved drop rates, Jagex is increasing the damage and accuracy tiers of several older weapons.

The Abyssal Whip will move from Tier 70 to Tier 75, while the Abyssal Vine Whip increases from Tier 75 to Tier 80. The Dark Bow will also reach Tier 75, up from Tier 70.

The Granite Maul is moving from Tier 55 to Tier 65. Meanwhile, the Bone Blowpipe jumps from Tier 50 to Tier 70.

These changes won’t increase the weapons’ equipment requirements, making the upgrades more accessible to players who obtain them.

The devs are also improving the Bone Blowpipe’s component drops. Players will receive the Blowpipe itself first, followed by its Chitin, Feather, and Fins, before subsequent drops become random.

The Terrasaur Maul will also become easier to craft, with its three Big Game Hunter components increasing from a 1/1,000 drop rate to 1/256 when obtained from single encounters.

Boss Mechanics Are Getting Quality-of-Life Improvements

This update also addresses several encounters that can feel unnecessarily slow.

Araxxor’s first phase will progress faster as its web burns, reducing downtime for players who deal enough damage to reach the transition before the web finishes burning. Players fighting Araxxor in duos will also be able to track the web’s progress on their boss activity bars.

Meanwhile, the Black Stone Dragon will skip its flight phase outside story mode. Story mode will retain the mechanic, but the boss will perform fewer jumps and use faster dialogue.

Jagex is also reviewing Vorago’s drop mechanics to make rewards more consistent across different group sizes, although it hasn’t finalized those changes yet.

The Gate of Elidinis will receive a change to its Crafting XP system. Collecting moonstone fragments will provide minimal XP, while players will earn most of their experience by striking the Gate with empowered cleansed statue shards. This change targets the GateCrafting method, which allowed players to repeatedly collect fragments and die without completing the encounter.

Skilling and Progression Changes

Several skilling activities are receiving adjustments, including Farming, Hunter, RuneCrafting, and Invention.

One of the biggest quality-of-life improvements affects Snape Grass. The Farming requirement to grow it will drop from level 80 to level 34, making it available much earlier to players who want to grow their own ingredients for Prayer potions.

Player-Owned Farm animal drops will also become more common. The Fremennik yak baby drop rate, for example, will improve from 1/3,000 to 1/300, while the Spirit yak baby drop rate from Summoning pouch creation will increase from 1/5,000 to 1/1,000.

However, not every skilling change is a buff. Jagex is reducing the Hunt XP awarded by Havenhythe Big Game Hunter Kebbits by 40% because recent quality-of-life improvements made the activity faster than originally intended.

The Brooch of the Gods is also being reworked following the removal of Portable Skilling Stations. Its new effect will increase the activation chance of eligible Dungeoneering scrolls by five percentage points.

Alchemiser Machines Will Generate Less GP

Jagex is also changing Invention machines to address inflation and reduce the amount of gold entering the game.

The Alchemiser Mk. 2 will process 15 items per hour instead of 25; its capacity will drop from 5,000 to 3,000 items, and players will only be able to place one machine instead of two. Its charge cost per batch will decrease from 150 to 120.

The standard Alchemiser will also be limited to one machine per player, down from two, while its charge cost per batch will increase from 45 to 65.

These changes target one of RuneScape’s major sources of passive GP generation. Jagex says it will continue monitoring the economy and make further adjustments if necessary.

Lower Slayer Requirements

Several high-level encounters will become accessible earlier as Jagex revisits their existing skill requirements.

The Magister’s Slayer requirement will drop from 115 to 95, while Legiones will require 88 Slayer instead of 95. The Dungeoneering requirement for the Meilyr resource dungeon containing Edimmu will also decrease from 115 to 92.

Soul Devourers are receiving similar adjustments, with the Slayer requirements for Salawa Akhs, Feline Akhs, and Scarab Akhs dropping to levels 95, 100, and 105, respectively.

These changes should help players access certain rewards closer to the point when they become relevant to their progression.

RuneScape’s Late-Game Rebalance Arrives in November

Beyond these changes, Jagex is adjusting several other systems, including Godsword Smithing requirements, Rex Matriarch ring upgrades, and items associated with its MTX Item Banishment project.

Life Refresh is getting removed, although players will retain access to its effects through Divination Energy. Wicked Hood Teleport Tokens are turning into RuneSpan points, while Slayer VIP Tokens will remain unchanged.

The Late-Game Rebalance is scheduled to launch in late November 2026, with Jagex warning that some details could change before release.

The update represents a significant effort to make RuneScape’s progression less frustrating while keeping its economy in check. Between the arrival of Tier 100 Masterwork armour, improved boss and Slayer rewards, and numerous skilling adjustments, players have plenty to look forward to when the changes arrive.
