Have you been looking for a co-op horde survival game, but nothing has quite scratched that itch outside of CoD Zombies & Killing Floor? If so, the developers at 314 Arts might have a solution for you with their upcoming game, NightRunner, which so far has over 14,000 wishlists on Steam.

What is NightRunner?

NightRunner is a brand-new take on the horde-survival genre that combines several elements from other genres, including tower defense, dungeon crawling, and a bit of extraction gameplay, all rolled into one game. The developers state that NightRunner is heavily inspired by Killing Floor, CoD Zombies (mainly Tranzit), and Escape from Tarkov.

Every run is high risk. Start with nothing and slowly build up your NightRunner by taking on various Jobs, defense objectives, side missions, and more, all while searching for gear. You keep everything you find once the train reaches its destination. If the job fails or you die, you lose everything you found.

Ultimately, NightRunner pulls in a lot of minor and major elements from different games, but nothing fully takes over except the PvE horde-shooter focus. While it does have some extraction elements, it’s not an extraction shooter at its core. There are dungeons to explore and even boss encounters, but it’s not the overarching focus.

At its core, it’s a wonderful PvE 4-player co-op survival experience. With a variety of different jobs, loadouts, gear sets, and ways to play, there is always something you can do.

As a result, this mix-and-match of lots of genre elements is certainly striking a chord, and only one month after its announcement, NightRunner has amassed 14,000 wishlists on Steam. As part of the celebration, the developers said the September playtest will drop soon, and you can sign up on their Steam Page.
