Wolcen 2 Brings a Fresh Twist to the ARPG Formula

Have you been looking for another top-down hack-and-slash ARPG, or something a little different but still scratches that D4 or PoE itch? Then Wolcen 2 is a game you might want to keep on your radar.
What is Wolcen 2?
Wolcen 2 is a direct sequel set several years after the events of Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. Players return to a world once again on the brink of collapse as the Warlord, the Shadow God’s bastard son, and his companions leave exile behind and step back into a world on the verge of destruction. Their return quickly draws them into an ancient prophecy that could hold the key to saving what remains of the shattered world.
But what sets Wolcen 2 apart from the competition? The biggest selling point is that there are no predefined classes. Your weapons are what unlock your skills, while modifiers and specializations, along with a massive passive skill tree, shape how those abilities work.
Become a close-quarters battle mage, a tank ranger, spellblade, or whatever archetype that you can cook up. Wolcen 2 has already run and will continue to offer more closed beta tests as they aim for a 2027 release, so keep an eye out.
But if you are familiar with the history of their previous title, Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, you might remember its rocky, suddenly canceled development cycle.
Scars of the Past
The developers do know that their previous game left the community feeling uneasy. With the sudden decision to shift all resources away from the first title because the engine limitations couldn’t fix the game’s problems. As a result, Game Director Cristian recently released a message explaining why they made that decision, while reassuring players about the future.
