It’s now day three since Final Fantasy Resonance launched, and the game has been steadily climbing the Steam charts. Now, it’s officially taken the crown as the most popular single-player Final Fantasy game on Steam!

A Call for Classics

It’s been a wild few days since Resonance’s release, but one thing is becoming increasingly clear: there’s still a huge interest in older, 2D turn-based Final Fantasy games. The proof is certainly there, as Resonance has now crossed 42,885 concurrent players, surpassing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which sits at 40,564.

On top of that, reviews are currently sitting at an overwhelmingly positive 97%, making it clear that fans are loving the game and that there’s plenty of interest in seeing more like it in the future. Perhaps this reception will be enough to convince Square Enix to work on future content updates for Resonance or even develop more games in the same style alongside its 3D releases.

Then again, Resonance might not hold the crown forever, especially with Final Fantasy Revelation finally on the way to deliver the climactic ending to the remake trilogy. Either way, it’s exciting to see a classic-inspired Final Fantasy game making such a big splash in the modern day.
