Overwatch’s New Tank D.Mon Is a Mix of Reinhardt and D.Va

Yesterday we got the first trailer for the new Overwatch Tank Hero, D.Mon, and today, Blizzard has officially revealed the gameplay for our new MEKA pilot. As a reminder, D.Mon will officially join Overwatch when Season 4: Heroes of Busan launches on August 11.

Even if she is another MEKA pilot, D.Mon is NOT D.Va 2.0. Blizzard really decided to do something pretty unique with her. Basically, you could say it is a pretty cool combination of Reinhardt and D.Va in one with Vendetta’s ultimate. She uses a sword to fight, has a pretty large shield, and good mobility. If you wanted a new Tank that plays differently than the others, you might be good to go with this one!

Reinhardt x D.Va x Vendetta

Of course, she pilots a MEKA just like D.Va, but thanks to her sword, this makes D.Mon a melee Tank that is there to dash in and slash through the enemy line quickly. Her shield appears to take inspiration from Reinhardt, combining close-range DMG with a really good defensive shield ability.

Here are more details about her kit:

• Plasma Saber – slashing enemies with powerful melee attacks
• Fusion Repeater – a massive machine gun that fires from range
• Power Barrier – a shield that protects her, similar to Reinhardt’s shield but that seems designed for more personal protection
• Propulsors – Boost dash, similar to D.Va’s
• She can eject from her mech
• Surging Strike – After raising her barrier, she can launch herself forward with a powerful dash attack that knocks enemies back
• Limit Break – Ultimate
  • Once activated, D.Mon charges her Plasma Saber before unleashing a devastating strike capable of hitting multiple enemies (similar to Vendetta in a way). Targets struck receive a debuff similar to Zenyatta’s Discord Orb, increasing the damage they take, and D.Mon also gains additional overhealth.

Different Enough From D.Va

Both are from the same MEKA team, so of course, there are similarities, such as being able to dash forward or eject from her Mech, and like D.Va, D.Mon does not disappear once her mech is destroyed. But instead of dropping from the sky like D.Va’s mech, Beast can basically reconstruct itself around Yuna when recalled, piecing itself back together. And on top of that, D.Mon is more of a melee Tank, compared to D.Va, who shoots more from range.

So although both heroes share the “pilot and mech” concept, D.Mon’s gameplay is unique enough to make her really interesting.

As mentioned already, she will be added to the game with the launch of Season 4 on August 11, so only a few days to go before you can finally try her out!
