Naughty Dog Confirms That The Last of Us Is Not Over Yet

By Jaymo | 3 Days Ago

Naughty Dog is still not really revealing more about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but it looks like they are not quite ready to leave The Last of Us behind just yet either! On the series side, the HBO adaptation is moving toward its conclusion, but Neil Druckmann has confirmed that Naughty Dog is still working on new projects within The Last of Us universe. He spoke to Gene Park of The Washington Post, and when he was asked about the future of the franchise, he made it pretty clear that there is still more to come from Naughty Dog.

“We’re not done with ‘The Last of Us.’ There’s a couple projects in the works that, when the time is right, I’m very excited to talk about.”

So for anyone who wanted more of this amazing universe, you now have something to look forward to! We should also soon finally get information about Intergalactic, but maybe we will get details about these new The Last of Us projects first!

The Last of Us 3 or Something Entirely Else?

The biggest thing here is that Druckmann did not say what these projects are. There is no confirmation of The Last of Us Part 3, another spin-off, a multiplayer game, or anything else specifically. For now, all we know is that “a couple of projects are in the works.” And I think that is probably the best way to look at this announcement. It would be very easy to start guessing what Naughty Dog is cooking, especially after everything we have seen from the franchise over the years, but until the studio is ready to talk, it is all speculation.

Druckmann also made an important distinction between the games and the HBO series. The third season of the adaptation is expected to end the story told across the first two games, but Naughty Dog is still very much in control of the The Last of Us game universe. He also confirmed that he was not involved in the creative direction of the upcoming third season anymore, meaning Naughty Dog’s plans for the games and the HBO show’s future are becoming way more separate. If you saw the second season and how terribly it was adapted compared to the amazing season 1, it does make sense that both are going in different directions and things end with season 3. It is now time for Druckmann and Naughty Dog to hit the accelerator and get things going on all these new projects they have planned, so we can finally see more!

Knowing Naughty Dog, we probably should not expect them to announce anything until they are good and ready.

For now, though, keep in mind that The Last of Us is not over!
