GTA 6 Is Leaking Again With Details About Map and Gameplay
By Jaymo | 5 Days AgoWell, that did not take long. A series of alleged GTA 6 development footage leaks started circulating online overnight, giving us what could be our first look at some gameplay systems that Rockstar has not officially shown yet. The footage has since been rapidly taken down, with Rockstar apparently issuing copyright claims against clips as they appeared. That does not automatically prove the footage is real, of course, but the combination of the takedowns and details that appear consistent with previously shown GTA 6 material has made the leaks particularly interesting.
That said, none of this has been confirmed by Rockstar, and the person behind the leaks is hardly the most trustworthy source. The account has also been using the attention around the GTA 6 footage to promote unrelated products and has made some fairly questionable claims. So we would advise you to be careful about this “leaker”. And of course, as always with leaks, take all of this with a grain of salt.
Still, there are some interesting details worth going through, so we made a small recap of all the information that circulated online during the last few hours.
GTA 6 Apparently Has a 6-Star Wanted Level

One of the leaked clips showed a six-star wanted level, suggesting Rockstar could be bringing back the wanted system from older GTA games. That is something fans have been asking about for years, although it is worth noting that we do not know how the system really works yet. The footage also shows three red indicators underneath the wanted level when police become involved. The icons seem to represent Jason’s clothing, location, and vehicle, potentially suggesting that police can identify and track him based on those characteristics.
If that is how the system works, it could make escaping the police considerably more complicated than simply driving around the nearest corner and waiting for the wanted level to disappear.
Cars May Need Fuel

Another potentially huge detail involves the vehicles.
In one clip, Jason enters a car and gas and oil icons appear on the interface. Both have incomplete circular meters around them, and this could suggest that vehicles will have fuel and oil levels that need to be maintained.
Again, it is unclear exactly how this would work, though.
Could Jason really need to stop at gas stations? Would cars eventually break down? Would different vehicles have different fuel consumption? For now, we simply do not know. But if these really are vehicle meters, Rockstar could be adding another layer of realism to GTA 6’s cars. And it could potentially make things way harder if you have to keep your oil and engines in check.
You Can Store Weapons in the Trunk

The leaked footage also showed Jason interacting with a vehicle’s trunk and storing weapons inside it. This would fit with what Rockstar has already shown about GTA 6’s more grounded approach to weapons and inventory management. So instead of carrying an absurd arsenal of guns everywhere you go, you could potentially keep certain weapons in your vehicles and choose what you want to take with you.
Again, this is based on alleged development footage, so things could change before release.
Jason’s Fighting Style

There was also some footage of Jason getting into a fight with an NPC after apparently hitting their delivery van. The NPC gets out carrying a wrench and starts attacking Jason, leading to a physical fight. The animations look particularly impressive, with Rockstar carrying over some of the more detailed physical reactions we have seen in Red Dead Redemption 2.
After Jason wins the fight, a small devil icon appears on the right side of the screen. That immediately led to comparisons with the honor system in Red Dead Redemption 2, although there is nowhere near enough information to say that is what this is. It could represent some kind of morality, reputation, aggression, or even an entirely different system.
An ambulance also apparently arrives at the scene shortly after the fight, and that would fit with Rockstar’s attempts to make the world react more dynamically to what players do.
More HUD Details
The leaked footage also showed a stamina bar alongside Jason’s health bar, and the minimap looks fairly similar to GTA V’s design.
Another small detail is the game’s number formatting. The HUD apparently displays money as something like “$1,643,” finally using a comma to make larger numbers easier to read. Not exactly the most exciting GTA 6 leak in the world, but hey, it is the little things.
There is also apparently a basketball minigame featuring Jason, with a tutorial explaining that you need to aim and hold a button until two rings overlap before releasing to shoot. So it seems basketball could be a pretty cool in-game activity.

The Alleged Map Is Huge
The leaks also contain a number of claims about the GTA 6 map. According to the information we could find, the map could be around twice the size of GTA V’s, but keep in mind that the exact measurement is impossible to verify from the leaked material. The map seems to contain five counties:
- Lummox
- Leonard
- Kelly
- Vice City
- Mariana
It also looked like there were 10 cities and towns, with Mount Kalaga located in the northern Lummox county. The Vice City Airport is also said to be significantly larger than Los Santos International Airport, with Rockstar apparently trying to make the scale of its planes more comparable to their real-world counterparts. There are also several additional islands mentioned in the leak, including Dalton Island, Gloriana Key, and Catalan Key. And water could be a much bigger part of exploration this time around, with numerous small islands scattered around the map.
One important thing to remember is that the leaked map may not show everything. Some details could simply be hidden when zoomed out, so it is probably too early to start treating this as the definitive GTA 6 map.
More Footage Could Still Appear

The person behind the leaks has apparently claimed that they are not finished yet. Their stated demands are focused around Rockstar’s plans for the game, including stopping digital-only pre-orders, making physical discs available, adding single-player content, and allowing the single-player game to remain playable without requiring an internet connection. The account has also made threats to leak footage related to other PlayStation projects.
For now, however, the GTA 6 leak situation appears to have calmed down, with the circulating clips being taken down and the account itself still active. It remains to be seen if more will be shared or if the person is going to be in real trouble soon. And again, none of the details above have been confirmed by Rockstar. Even if the footage is legitimate, this is supposedly early development material, meaning features, UI elements, map details, and gameplay systems can still change before GTA 6 releases.
The first real extended look will release on Netflix on August 27, so until then, I would not take any leak as 100% legit.
