What are Runner games?
In life, the race never ends.
Runner Games put your timing and reactions to the test. You'll speed through streets, mazes, temples or maybe even space while trying to get as far as possible without colliding with any obstacles. They mostly come in two flavours: endless and level-based. In the case of endless, you'll just try to get as far as possible to net yourself an insurmountable high school. Meanwhile, the level-based variant sees you trying to reach a set end before moving on to a more difficult level that might even introduce new gameplay elements.
Fancy Pants Adventure falls into the latter camp. You play as the titular Fancy Pants as he sets out on a journey dressed to impress. With his flawless hair and incredible parkour skills, you'll have to work your way through a series of tricky levels that will, at times, see you running along upside down. Enemies are waiting to kill you as well. Presumably because they're jealous of your hair, so watch out for them.
Not all Runner Games need to be buttery smooth, though. In fact, some are deliberately cumbersome and designed entirely to be frustrating. While that might sound terrible, give Skip and Ascend a try and you'll quickly find yourself realising how compulsive getting the hang of something purposefully annoying can be. All you have to do is press the right or left arrow key, depending on which side of the screen flashes yellow. Sounds easy, right? Come back to us when you accidentally utter a curse word after failing the fifteenth time.
And Addicting Games' last recommendation for this category is Slope Xtreme. In it, you have to guide a ball down a perilous obstacle course, using the left and right keys to steer your sphere companion towards relative safety. It has an impressive sense of speed, and the aesthetic is delightful, giving a minimalist, futuristic vibe that makes you feel like you're taking part in some sport that's yet to be invented.
