The Blood of Dawnwalker Has a Secret Ending Where You Just Leave

By Jaymo | 4 Days Ago

The Blood of Dawnwalker gives Coen 30 in-game days to save his family from Brencis, but what if you simply decide that none of this is worth it and leave the Valley?

Because yes, you can really just do that. After all, what is the point? Who knows what he already did to your family, and why would it be your role to be the hero of the story? Nothing is forcing you to fix this.

This is why, after completing the Prologue and gaining access to the open world, you can find a way out of Vale Sangora in the Coward’s Path area. Yes, the name is most likely fitting since you are effectively taking the… coward’s path of the game. If you manage to reach the exit and choose to leave, The Blood of Dawnwalker does not stop you. Instead, it simply gives Coen an early ending and rolls the credits.

It is one of the hidden endings in the game, and it is also linked to the “A Hero They Deserve” achievement.

How to leave Vale Sangora

The exit can be found west of the Coward’s Path Shrine in the Briar Sloughs. There is a broken bridge leading toward an open gate in the canyon, but reaching it requires your vampiric abilities, meaning this particular escape route is accessible at night only.

Once you make your way through the gate, the game gives you a very simple choice:

  • Leave the Valley
  • Stay and fight

Choosing to stay simply sends you back to the normal game and allows Coen’s story to continue. Choosing to leave, however, ends the story.

Coen decides that saving his family and getting involved in Vale Sangora’s conflict is not worth it. He abandons the Valley and everyone in it, triggering the early ending and unlocking “A Hero They Deserve”. The ending can also count toward the “The Blood of Dawnwalker” story-completion achievement, but it is not considered one of the game’s standard endings for achievements such as completing the campaign on Duelist difficulty.

And Rebel Wolves did not just use this as a funny “game over” screen. After the credits, you get a special post-credits scene showing Coen in the modern world, raising some rather intriguing questions about what happened to him after escaping Vale Sangora.

So if you are planning to try this ending yourself, make a manual save first. Once you choose to leave, the game ends immediately, but loading your previous save lets you return to Vale Sangora and continue the normal story. So just make sure you keep a save file ready so you do not lose hours of gameplay.

Considering how much of The Blood of Dawnwalker revolves around Coen desperately trying to save his family before time runs out, having an option to essentially say “You know what? I’m out” and walk away is a pretty great little secret for players to discover.

It is definitely not the only secret the game has to offer, so keep exploring the valley!
