Dandelion Void Brings Survival Horror to Space

By EncampedWeevil | Yesterday

Looking for a brand-new hardcore open-world survival crafting horror game? Dandelion Void might be exactly what you’re looking for. This challenging survival game drops you aboard the starship Pergola, where hostile plantlife has completely consumed the vessel. Better yet, veteran Project Zomboid modders are behind the game, bringing their experience to an entirely new survival horror experience.

What Is Dandelion Void?

That’s right, Dandelion Void is being developed by veteran Project Zomboid modders, and their experience certainly shines through. The game’s camera, controls, and several of its mechanics may feel familiar to Project Zomboid players, but this is ultimately a completely new experience.

In Dandelion Void, you’ll explore the starship Pergola, uncover the fate of its long-dead crew, and struggle to survive against the horrific jungle that has consumed the once-abandoned vessel.

The Pergola launched in the late 20th century in an alternate timeline. As the brutality of capitalism reached its zenith, popular uprisings fractured the United States and Europe into a jigsaw puzzle of separatist territories.

In response, the scattered remnants of the old world’s powers united under a brutal military regime. This old guard stands in opposition to the optimism and pragmatism of the newly formed Workers United Government.

During a fragile window of ceasefire, a group of artists, scientists, and controversial financiers in the autonomous San Francisco Bay created the Acorn Starship Collective. Visionaries to some and gutless cowards to others, the ASC launched the Pergola toward an exoplanet believed to possess the potential for sustaining life, a journey expected to take a dozen generations.

You know nothing of this. Your eyes have never seen these long-dead founders, and your feet have never touched the soil of Earth or any other planet. Your world is one of cold steel bulkheads, winding jungle corridors, and the groan of unfamiliar machinery. You are alone.

Your Ship, Your Grave

Much like in Project Zomboid, survival means constantly managing your character’s basic needs. Hunger, thirst, and shelter are all important, but you’ll also need to keep an eye on your character’s happiness and comfort. However, instead of fighting against endless hordes of undead, you’ll be battling the living growths that have infested the Pergola.

Scavenge the remains of the ship’s crew for useful supplies, cut down the spreading vegetation, and purge the jungle from the vessel’s aging metal corridors. You’ll even be able to establish your own home in an abandoned air duct, cramped office supply closet, or leafy hideaway beside a reactor cooling pool.

And because the team comes from the Project Zomboid modding community, they are building Dandelion Void with extensive modding support in mind. In the future, purchasing the game will also give players access to its custom map editor and robust Lua API, giving aspiring modders plenty of tools to create their own content.

There is currently no set release date for Dandelion Void, but the game is already available to wishlist on Steam. For fans of hardcore survival games, Project Zomboid, or unsettling sci-fi horror, this is definitely one worth keeping an eye on.
