The Blood of Dawnwalker Console Players Are Unhappy About Target FPS

By Jaymo | Yesterday

Rebel Wolves has released a new video showing The Blood of Dawnwalker running on PS5 Pro. The footage lasts a little over five minutes and includes a mix of exploration, quests, and combat, so we finally have a better idea of what the game will look like and run like on console.

They also confirmed two graphics modes for the PS5 Pro. Both modes use dynamic 4K resolution, but neither one targets 60 FPS at launch.

Both options come with some visual enhancements on the PS5 Pro, with the main difference being either a better image quality or a higher frame rate.

The Blood of Dawnwalker PS5 Pro Graphics Modes

So, to make it clearer, here is how the two modes break down:

  • Quality
    • Dynamic 4K
    • 30 FPS
  • Balanced
    • Dynamic 4K
    • 40 FPS

Basically, if you want the best possible image quality, Quality Mode is the way to go. If you would rather have a slightly smoother experience, Balanced Mode raises the target to 40 FPS.

The PS5 Pro also provides additional visual improvements regardless of the mode you choose.

What About 60 FPS?

As you probably expected, the announcement has already made a lot of players angry, particularly around the fact that The Blood of Dawnwalker does not offer a 60 FPS mode on PS5 Pro. Some players have already pointed out that a game launching in 2026 should be aiming for 60 FPS on consoles, particularly on the more powerful PS5 Pro. That is a fair criticism if 60 FPS is important to you, but frame rate alone does not tell us how well a game is really running.

A well-paced 30 FPS can feel much better than a 60 FPS mode that constantly dips or has inconsistent frame delivery. Getting a game to run at 60 FPS also is not simply a case of flipping a switch. The developers may have to reduce resolution, graphical detail, effects, CPU-heavy simulation, or other parts of the game’s presentation to reach that target.

And The Blood of Dawnwalker is a large, open-world action RPG with a lot happening in its environments, characters, and systems. For a single-player game like this, some players may prefer a higher-quality 30 FPS over a 60 FPS mode that requires more noticeable visual compromises. That does not mean 30 FPS is automatically the better choice either. If you prefer a smoother image, the 40 FPS Balanced Mode is at least a decent middle ground for PS5 Pro owners. And from what we can see in the video, it seems the game still runs really well on the PS5 Pro, so for those who will play on console, you should have no problem enjoying the game at a stable 30 or 40 FPS.

Ultimately, there are two sides to the PS5 Pro discussion.

If you want 60 FPS at all costs, the lack of a 60 FPS option is obviously going to be disappointing, but then again, if you want constant 60 FPS, the best option remains to move from console to a high-end PC. But if your priority is a visually ambitious single-player RPG with consistent performance, 30 FPS Quality Mode or 40 FPS Balanced Mode may be perfectly reasonable choices, particularly if the game maintains good frame pacing.

The important thing will be seeing how those modes perform once the game is in players’ hands. No one can really judge unless you play through the entire thing yourself.
