Rockstar Is Furious Over GTA 6 Leaks, but They Will Not Delay the Netflix Reveal

You have probably seen all the recent GTA 6 leaks showing an older build with quite a lot of gameplay and other in-game elements. Well, it turns out these really caused plenty of frustration inside Rockstar Games. And understandably so. But it seems like this is not making Rockstar change their current plans. According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Rockstar currently has no plans to delay the August 27 gameplay premiere of GTA 6, despite the leaker apparently still being active.

So basically, the planned GTA 6 Extended Look will therefore continue as scheduled, with the presentation set to premiere on Netflix on August 27. And for those who do not have a Netflix subscription, you also do not have to worry because the exact same content will go live on YouTube only a few hours later. It is not a week-long exclusivity or anything like that, so do not feel pressured into having to pay a subscription for this.

Rockstar Is Still Trying to Find the Leaker

One of the biggest problems for Rockstar right now is that the source of the leak apparently has not been identified. According to Schreier’s report, Rockstar’s management is focused on figuring out where the breach came from while the person responsible remains active. The situation is particularly frustrating for the studio because this is the second main GTA 6 leak. The first happened back in 2022, when a huge amount of unfinished footage from the game was stolen and released online.

This time around, the leaked material apparently comes from a working build of GTA 6, so it is not just a collection of pre-recorded videos.

That makes the situation considerably more serious for Rockstar, especially with the official gameplay reveal only days away.

GTA 6’s Big Reveal Was Supposed to Be On Netflix

The timing could not be much worse for Rockstar. The August 27 presentation was supposed to be the first time the public would see GTA 6 gameplay, with Rockstar choosing Netflix for what was intended to be a massive showcase for the game.

The leaked footage obviously undercuts that plan. Even if it is from an older build, and many details may have changed by now, it still ends up showing people a lot of things that we were not supposed to see just yet. Instead of waiting for Rockstar’s polished presentation, players have already been able to see unofficial footage circulating online, including gameplay of Jason, driving, combat, and other parts of the game. That does not mean the August 27 presentation is suddenly pointless, though. As mentioned, the leaked material is from an older development build, meaning it should not necessarily be treated as representative of the version Rockstar is preparing to show. And Rockstar still appears determined to present the game on its own terms, so they most likely have much more planned for the Netflix reveal.

It is also good to remind everyone to be very careful around this leaker, as he does seems to use the hype around the GTA leaks to sell things such as “custom-made gameplay footage“, so we recommend to not interact with it much, and to not buy anything from them, as you do not know what you will get, and it could potentially put you in danger.

Rockstar Employees Are Furious

Perhaps the most frustrating part of the situation is what Rockstar employees had to go through after the 2022 leak. According to Schreier, following that incident, Rockstar significantly tightened security around GTA 6. The company ended remote work for the team and required developers to return to the office five days a week, with the changes specifically intended to prevent another major leak.

And yet, another one has now happened.

Schreier says that developers are understandably angry and frustrated by the situation, particularly after spending years working under those much stricter conditions. It is easy to understand why that would be demoralizing. Developers were asked to give up remote work in the name of protecting the game, only for another leak to happen anyway.

Ultimately, let’s not forget that leaks like this not only ruin the fun for a lot of players, but also the work devs have put into their games for years. One of Rockstar’s senior executives has apparently sent an email to employees condemning the leak and also telling them that the incident should not overshadow the work they have done on GTA 6.

GTA 6 Is Still on Track

Despite all of this, there does not appear to be any immediate change to Rockstar’s plans. The studio is continuing to work on GTA 6, and the company is not planning to change its current marketing strategy because of the leak. That means the August 27 Extended Look is still expected to go ahead as planned.

The game’s release date also remains November 19, 2026, with no indication that the recent leak has caused another delay.

So, for now, Rockstar is basically trying to move forward as if this never happened, and simultaneously figuring out how someone managed to get access to the game in the first place. The leaked footage may have stolen some of the surprise from the August 27 presentation, but Rockstar still has the opportunity to show players the actual, polished version of GTA 6, with a ton of other surprises no one will have expected at all!

And considering how long fans have been waiting for proper gameplay, August 27 is definitely going to be a pretty big day for GTA 6, no matter what.
