Can You Play as a Jedi in Star Wars Zero Company?

By Jaymo | Yesterday

For those who were wondering if you can play as a Jedi in STAR WARS Zero Company, the answer is yes, but there is a pretty big condition.

You cannot create your own Jedi or turn one of your custom Operators into one. The Jedi Padawan class is exclusive to Tel-Rea Vokoss, one of Zero Company’s authored characters. So yes, you can indeed take a Jedi into battle alongside your custom squad, but it has to be Tel-Rea, and you will not get an entire squad of lightsaber-wielding Jedi running around.

How Does the Jedi Work in Star Wars Zero Company?

Tel-Rea Vokoss is the game’s Jedi Padawan Operator and one of the game’s four exotic classes.

Her combat style combines dual lightsabers with Force abilities, including Force Push. That ability can even be used to knock an enemy out of cover and into the Overwatch zone of another squad member, creating some pretty nasty combinations. The important part is that Tel-Rea is the only Operator who can use the Jedi Padawan class. You cannot recruit a generic Jedi, and you cannot give the Jedi class to Hawks or one of your custom Operators.

In other words, if you want a lightsaber-wielding Jedi in your squad, Tel-Rea is your only option. So yes, you can have a Jedi, but it can not be just anyone in your squad. Story-wise, it probably makes sense, but for those who were hoping to get a really cool squad filled with lightsabers… it is sadly not possible.

What Are Classes in Star Wars Zero Company?

This is where things can get a little confusing, because not everything you can recruit in Zero Company is technically a class. Every Operator is built using several different layers:

  1. Unique Talent – a special ability tied to the individual character.
  2. Weapon Specialization – determines the weapons they can use.
  3. Primary Class – their main combat role.
  4. Secondary Class – unlocked later in the campaign and lets the Operator combine two classes.

There are 12 classes in total, split between eight standard classes and four exotic classes. The eight standard classes can be used by any recruit, but exotic classes have specific restrictions. Jedi is one of those exotic classes.

The Eight Standard Classes

The standard classes are essentially the game’s normal combat roles, and you can experiment with them much more freely.

  • Assault
    • The Assault class focuses on getting close to enemies and forcing them out of cover.
    • It is the aggressive frontline option, designed to close the distance and disrupt enemy positions.
  • Heavy
    • Heavy is the more defensive frontline class.
    • Rather than rushing around the battlefield, Heavy is about surviving, holding ground and taking punishment. Its Ultimate ability uses a rocket launcher for some serious damage.
  • Soldier
    • Soldier is the game’s generalist.
    • It has access to melee attacks, grenades, a heavy blaster, and a rocket launcher, making it a good option if you want an Operator who can handle a bit of everything.
    • The story character Trick uses the Soldier class.
  • Sharpshooter
    • Sharpshooter is all about eliminating a specific high-priority target.
    • Where other ranged classes focus on spreading damage around, Sharpshooter is designed to isolate one enemy and take them out with precision.
  • Gunslinger
    • Gunslinger takes almost the opposite approach.
    • It does not focus on one target, but it can make multiple attacks during a turn and spread its damage across multiple enemies.
    • So the basic difference is pretty simple:
      • Sharpshooter = one target.
      • Gunslinger = multiple targets.
  • Medic
    • Medic keeps the rest of the squad alive.
    • The class focuses on healing and preventing Injuries, which is particularly important because three Injuries can permanently remove an Operator.
    • But Medics are not completely passive either. Their support abilities can also be used to make offensive Operators considerably more effective.
  • Scout
    • Scout is focused on reconnaissance, positioning, and improving the effectiveness of the rest of the team.
    • The class creates advantages that other Operators can take advantage of.
  • Scoundrel
    • Scoundrel is the more flexible one.
    • The class is designed around reacting to what is happening on the battlefield and creating opportunities for other Operators, making it particularly interesting when combined with another class later in the game.

So Where Do Clone Troopers Fit In?

This is where the terminology can get confusing. Clone Trooper is not a class. Instead, Clone Troopers are Operators that can be unlocked and customized. Their class is a separate part of their build. That means you can have a Clone Trooper who is an Assault, Heavy, Medic, Sharpshooter, or one of the other standard classes.

And yes, that means you can eventually create a full squad of Clone Troopers.

The same basic idea applies to your custom characters. The character’s appearance, species, and identity are not necessarily what determines their combat role. So if your dream is to assemble your own little squad of Clone Troopers, you can absolutely do that.

But Jedi Are Different

The Jedi Padawan class is one of the game’s exotic classes, and these work differently from the standard ones. There are currently four exotic classes:

  • Jedi Padawan – exclusive to Tel-Rea Vokoss
  • Mandalorian Warrior – exclusive to Cly Kullervo
  • Astromech – available to custom droids. You can have a full Astromech squad
  • One unrevealed exotic class

Unlike the standard classes, you cannot simply take any recruit and assign an exotic class to them. That is why you cannot have a full Jedi squad.

Operators Can Eventually Have Two Classes

The class system gets even more interesting later in the campaign. Every Operator eventually unlocks a secondary class, allowing them to combine two of the eight standard classes. For example, you could combine Medic and Gunslinger. The Medic’s Combat Stim can increase an ally’s damage and health, and Gunslinger can make multiple attacks in a turn. Putting those two things together creates a much stronger offensive setup than simply using the two abilities independently. Another example is Scoundrel + Sharpshooter. Scoundrel can use Identify Weakness to mark an enemy for a critical hit, and Sharpshooter is already designed to eliminate a single priority target.

So the class system is not really about picking one permanent role and sticking with it. It is much more about building combinations that complement each other. Standard class specializations can also be changed through the Personnel room at The Den, so you are encouraged to experiment before permanently locking a character into one role.

So to recap, Tel-Rea Vokoss is the only Jedi Padawan Operator, so she is the only way to have a lightsaber-wielding Jedi in Star Wars Zero Company. But if you are after a full squad of Clone Troopers, that is absolutely possible. So yes, you can play as a Jedi. Just do not expect to build an entire Jedi Council in The Den.
