Surprisingly, completely out of the blue, a 2011 The Lord of the Rings game has received a re-release today. That’s right, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North™ – Legacy Edition is back on storefronts across all platforms!

A Cold Wind Blows from the North

Aspyr Media, the studio that has been bringing plenty of classic titles back to life over the past few years, is back with another surprise release. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition has suddenly returned to storefronts across PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 1 & 2.

This cult-classic RPG lets you take control of one of three heroes as you uncover the untold story of Agandaûr, a Black Númenórean servant of Sauron who is amassing a massive army in the ruins of Fornost. While Frodo and Samwise make their journey toward Mount Doom, a new Fellowship must rise to defend the North from the forces gathering in the shadows.

Choose your hero and play your part in the battle. Eradan is a Dúnedain Ranger who specializes in stealth and precision with bows and swords. Andriel, an Elven Loremaster, uses powerful healing and area-of-effect spells to support her allies. Finally, Farin, a Dwarven Champion, serves as the group’s frontline tank, capable of unleashing devastating melee attacks.

You can take on the adventure alone or team up with up to two friends through online co-op or old-school local split-screen multiplayer.

Along the way, you’ll encounter familiar faces such as Aragorn, Gandalf, and Elrond while exploring a variety of lore-rich locations. Journey through the Elven sanctuaries of Rivendell and Lórien, brave the daunting heights of the Lonely Mountain, and traverse the fog-shrouded paths of Mirkwood as you fight to protect the North.

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition is available for $20, with a 10% launch discount available until August 25.
