Phantom Blade Zero Gets Its Own State of Play
By Jaymo | Today at 10:59amSony has something pretty big planned for Phantom Blade Zero! They announced a dedicated State of Play “gameplay deep dive” for the upcoming game, scheduled for August 17. So this means that it will not be your regular State of Play with multiple games. This one will focus entirely on Phantom Blade Zero and its gameplay systems.
The presentation will begin at:
- 7 PM PT – August 17
- 10 PM ET – August 17
- 3 AM BST – August 18
- 4 AM CEST – August 18
- 10 AM CST – August 18
- 11 AM JST – August 18

For some parts of the world, that sadly means it will be live in the middle of the night. Luckily, the VOD will still be available to look it up once you wake up! And of course, you can watch it live on Twitch and YouTube.
More Phantom Blade Zero Gameplay
On top of the State of Play announcement, Sony also released an 11-minute-long extended pre-order trailer that shows you battling enemies on top of a speeding wagon and crossing blades with former comrades like The Hunt. But this is just a small part of what Phantom Blade Zero has to offer.
The upcoming State of Play is specifically made to show much more of the game’s combat systems, character builds, and dark wuxia-inspired world. The developers will use this to introduce characters that we have not seen yet, but who will play an important role in the story. They will also show just how much freedom you have with all these characters and their unique builds. Basically, you can expect way more depth when it comes to the combat and progression systems than what we have seen so far.
Donnie Yen Is Involved With the Game
In the official Blog Post, PlayStation also revealed that Donnie Yen has been involved with the game. The martial arts star has been working as a creative consultant on Phantom Blade Zero since 2023, contributing his experience in martial arts and action filmmaking to the game’s combat design. He also plays Mó Yuan, the father of protagonist Soul, since he did the facial and motion capture.
So we have someone with plenty of experience in martial arts cinema to help make the combat feel authentic, and that can only mean good things for the game!
Phantom Blade Zero Pre-Orders Are Now Live
Pre-orders for Phantom Blade Zero are now also available on PS5 and Steam. The game will launch on October 29, 2026, and if you pre-order, you will receive two bonuses in sort of early access, since both will also be obtainable in-game later on. So the pre-order bonus is not locking exclusive content behind something you have to buy at least.
- The Treasure Basin accessory
- The Legacy outfit

For now, the big thing to look forward to is the upcoming State of Play. And considering the developers specifically say the trailer was only the beginning, there should be quite a bit of new footage to look forward to!
