Tides of Annihilation Reveals New Combat, Bosses, and Systems

We are getting a much better idea of what Tides of Annihilation is going to play like, and honestly, the combat system sounds pretty damn interesting. The upcoming action game from Eclipse Glow Games has revealed a bunch of new details, including how Gwendolyn can fight alongside summoned Knights of the Round Table, some of the game’s bosses, its progression systems, and even some of the ways those Knight abilities can be used outside combat.

There is still no release date for Tides of Annihilation, but the game will be playable at Gamescom 2026! So we will get more details after that as well!

You Can Fight Alongside Two Knights at Once

One of the most interesting parts of Tides of Annihilation is its Knight system. Gwendolyn can equip two sets of Knights and swap between them during combos. Each set contains a Main Knight and a Sub-Knight, with the two serving very different purposes.

• The Main Knight determines Gwendolyn’s primary weapon and attack style
• The Sub-Knight provides utility and support attacks

A few of the Main Knights have already been shown:

• Bedivere
  • Uses a scythe
  • Builds up a gauge during combat
  • Can unleash powerful burst attacks
• Gareth
  • Fast character focused on wind-based attacks
  • His attacks leave feathers behind that automatically hit enemies
• Palamedes
  • Hits much harder than the other two
  • His attacks rely on charging up before unleashing huge amounts of damage
  • Can stagger enemies quicker to create openings

Two Sub Knights were also shown in the latest demo: Gawain and Kay. Gawain can teleport directly toward enemies and deal mid-range damage, helping extend combos, and Kay has the ability to freeze time.

That combination of Main and Sub Knights could make the combat system super flexible. Instead of simply switching weapons, you are combining different characters and abilities.

The Knight abilities are also useful outside of combat. Certain Knight abilities can be used to solve puzzles, meaning that the characters you have equipped can affect how you interact with the world outside of battles. You can also travel between different dimensions to open up new paths, so there is exploration on top of combat.

On top of the Knights, you also equip weapons and Talismans.

Weapons come with passive perks, and Talismans cost points to equip and provide powerful modifiers that can significantly change how Gwendolyn fights. One example shown gives basic attacks the ability to summon falling meteors, so there is clearly a lot of fun things to mess around with! It sounds like there will be quite a bit of room to build different builds.

Bosses And Mythology

Tides of Annihilation also seems to be going all-in on its mix of mythologies. The game apparently has characters and creatures inspired by Arthurian, British, Egyptian, Japanese, and Chinese mythology, and the latest demo showed off a few of them.

One of the bosses is Anubis, who can be found in the Egyptian wing. He uses sand whirlpools and walls to trap Gwendolyn, can summon priests to help him, and can even alter the battlefield during the encounter. Mordred is fought in a library and is another humanoid boss capable of summoning Knights. The second phase of the fight takes things up a notch, with Mordred bringing out a giant dragon. Then there is a Japanese Yokai that becomes even more dangerous during its second phase when it transforms into a dragon-like creature.

Tides of Annihilation is clearly not limiting itself to Arthurian mythology.

Still No Release Date

There is still one pretty important piece of information missing since Tides of Annihilation does not have a release date yet. We do know that the game will be at Gamescom 2026, however, so we should hopefully get another good look at it soon. Given they had to change the VA of Gwendolyn recently, this might be one of the reasons we do not have a release date yet. But the more we hear about the game, the more ambitious it sounds.

Now we just need ot know when we can play it!

It is also worth mentioning that since the VA recently changed, the model for Gwendolyn has also received some modifications. So if you feel like she does not quite look the same anymore, well, you are not crazy.
