The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past Will Be Revealed at Gamescom

Gamescom Opening Night Live is tonight, and CD Projekt Red is bringing some pretty big news! If you are a Witcher fan, you will definitely want to keep an eye on the show.

CD Projekt Red Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski has confirmed that they will showcase The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, the upcoming expansion that is currently planned to release in 2027. And this is not going to be a small piece of DLC either. According to CD Projekt Red, Songs of the Past will be a full-on expansion, roughly the same size as The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine. This is a pretty substantial expansion for a game that originally released more than a decade ago.

Songs of the Past is going to bring a new story and additional gameplay content to The Witcher 3. In a new video, Michał Nowakowski has teased a dark story, but he is keeping most of the details secret for now. We should learn considerably more during tonight’s ONL show, where they plan to showcase the expansion.

What Will CDPR Show During Opening Night Live?

CD Projekt Red has specifically encouraged fans to watch ONL because they will show a lot of content around Songs of the Past. The studio says the presentation will include more information about the expansion’s new story and gameplay content, giving us our first proper look at what this final Witcher 3 adventure will offer.

So far, we do not have that many details, but knowing that the expansion is going to be pretty much as big as Blood and Wine, it already gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect. Blood and Wine was a huge expansion that added an entirely new region, a substantial story, and dozens of hours of content to The Witcher 3.

If Songs of the Past really is as big, it could be pretty cool.

You Can Try Songs of the Past at Gamescom

If you are attending Gamescom this year, you will also get an even better opportunity to see what CD Projekt Red has been working on. They confirmed that Songs of the Past will be playable at its Gamescom booth, meaning attendees can get their hands on the expansion themselves.

CDPR is also planning its usual Redstreams throughout the five days of Gamescom, with a different stream taking place each day.

They teased that many more surprises are to be shared during the event, so Songs of the Past apparently is not the only thing CD Projekt Red has planned.

What About The Witcher 4?

CD Projekt Red also briefly talked about the future of the franchise, but do not expect to see The Witcher 4 at Gamescom this year. Michał Nowakowski confirmed that the game will not be shown during this year’s Gamescom, but they definitely plan to continue attending future Gamescom events. He also talked again about the ambition behind The Witcher 4, describing it as the studio’s “biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date.”

And we even got a release window! For now, they are aiming for 2028 for The Witcher 4, but there is no exact release date to announce yet. So, unfortunately, do not expect to see that during Opening Night Live.

Instead, CD Projekt Red is giving The Witcher 3 one final big adventure before moving fully into the next chapter of the franchise.
