GTA VI Could Require New Playstation Firmware to Stop Jailbroken Consoles

It has been reported that with the recent explosion of jailbreaking capabilities on the Playstation 5, Rockstar could be choosing whether to lock the upcoming release of GTA VI to newer software.
A GTA VI Lockdown
Earlier this month, a new Playstation 5 jailbreak surfaced. Called Relapse, it would allow anyone with a Playstation 5 running any firmware from 7.00 through to 13.60 to easily jailbreak their console. For those who don’t know, jailbreaking allows for the limits or restrictions placed on software to be bypassed. In this case it means that programs and apps can be run on a Playstation 5 without Sony approval.
Whilst this does allow the Playstation 5 to run software that was previously impossible, like emulators, it also opens that gates to piracy. With the launch of GTA VI next month looking like the most anticipated release of the year, its no wonder why these recent developments have Rockstar concerned.

As a way to combat this, it’s been reported that Rockstar will lock GTA VI to a certain firmware. The October 14.00 update is supposedly the one being targeted, well above the 13.60 limit of Relapse. This means that in order to play GTA VI when it comes out this November the console has to be up to date. The firmware limitation hasn’t been confirmed by either Rockstar or Sony, but given the hype it appears likely.
This should prevent GTA VI from being affected by these jailbreaks, at least in the near term. How long these measures will remain in place is anyone’s guess. It could be that some time after launch Rockstar drops the firmware requirements, or maybe the continuing development of jailbreaking software will necessitate harsher restrictions. Either way, the hype and anticipation surrounding GTA VI is palpable, and its launch will be immense.
