The opening ceremony for BlizzCon 2026 has officially wrapped up, and Blizzard had plenty of new announcements to share. During the opening show, we got our first look at a brand-new Overwatch trailer, which revealed the game’s next hero, Doctrine.

Doctrine Escapes Into Overwatch

As the latest Overwatch story saga continues, Doomfist is looking to forge a new gauntlet, but he’s going to need some help from an old friend. A new trailer gives players a glimpse at the events they’ll soon experience in a brand-new map, Watchpoint: Grimsvotn.

Players will join Doomfist and Talon as they lay siege to Grimsvotn in an attempt to break Overwatch’s newest Support hero, Doctrine, out of his holding cell. While we don’t know too much about the mysterious hero just yet, we do know that he commands a swarm of mechanical bats capable of stealing life force.

These bats not only make Doctrine appear younger, but they also fit into his role as a Support hero, allowing him to use their life-stealing abilities to heal his allies.

Doctrine will be available during a limited-time Hero Trial from September 12–14, giving players their first chance to try out the new hero before he officially arrives with Season 5.
