Everything Revealed During the Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Nintendo Direct

By Jaymo | Aug 4, 2026

If you have been waiting for it, here it is! Nintendo finally shared more about Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, revealing its story, tactical gameplay, exploration systems, and a ton of features ahead of the game’s launch on September 17 for Nintendo Switch 2! This was all shared during a new Nintendo Direct livestream today that lasted around 20 to 30 minutes!

And for those who missed the livestream, you can catch up on it on the official Nintendo channel as well!

Four Heroes, Four Stories

In the year 1449, the Dagdan Empire is a prosperous land under the rule of the gods. In its capital city, Dagsion, the Heroic Games are held in tribute to Dagda the Great, the empire’s founding ruler. It is said that the winner of the games will be granted one wish. Many powerful fighters from across the land gather for the games. Among all the participants, four seemingly unconnected contenders sign up in the hope of victory, each carrying a wish of their own:

  • Cai hopes to save his imprisoned father
  • Dietrich is a wandering warrior searching for ever stronger opponents
  • Theodora fights to restore the honor of her kingdom and its goddess
  • Leda seeks revenge against the murderer of her father
Cai – Dietrich – Theodora – Leda

Each protagonist has their own storyline, companions, and perspective on the world. You can only guide one character at a time, but you are free to play multiple hero stories in parallel. At any time between matches, you can visit the Pale Raven’s perch in the city and swap to a different character, advancing towards the final battle as you see fit.

Classic Tactical Battles

Before each match, you can choose your party members and their initial placement on the field.

Once your characters are placed, the battle can start! It is turn-based combat.

  • Each unit’s movement range is shown in blue
  • Their attack range is shown in red

Be smart when you move your characters and from where you attack your enemies! Once all of your units have completed their actions, it’s the enemy’s turn. Like any other turn-based game, you will take turns moving and fighting across the map. You win if you defeat the opposing leader, but some fights may include other specific conditions!

If your allies fall into battle, you can also turn back time and rewind to any previous point in battle.

Weapon & Terrain Advantages

When it comes to attacking, your heroes have different ways to attack:

  • Swords – Straightforward and easy to use
  • Gauntlets – Make it easier to evade attacks
  • Spears – Deal massive damage to cavalry units
  • Axes – Low accuracy but higher attack power
  • Bows – Allow you to attack from a distance and can deal fatal blows to flying enemies
  • Magic – More effective against enemies with heavy armor, can heal or support allies in other ways

Each type can have various unique weapons that are part of the category. For example, some swords can do things such as call down lightning, or you can find Gauntlets that look like firearms!

When it comes to turn-based games like this, positioning is one of the most important elements of combat. If you attack within an enemy’s range of attack, they can counterattack directly. So basically, you want to attack those with close-range weapons from a distance, and get up close with long-range opponents to avoid counterattacks. The terrain can also give you an advantage.

Combat Arts & Blaze Arts

Each character also has access to combat arts. These are attacks unleashed at the expense of weapon durability. So basically, powerful attacks that will eat up some of your weapon’s durability. Some attacks deal more damage, have a longer range, or have other effects that will give you an advantage.

The goal is to use them in the most decisive moments. If you use them too often, your weapons will lose durability faster, but if you wait too long, you might miss an opportunity to end the fight sooner.

On top of that, each character possesses a special move that consumes your soul in exchange for power, called Blaze Arts.

  • Cai releases a burst of massive power from his hand to cast flames in a wide range
  • Dietrich has a moving shadow Blaze Arts that uses his ink black cloak after moving to warp him in locations that are not easily accessible
  • Theodora uses the power inherited from her ancestors to smash her fist into the ground and send her enemies flying
  • Leda plays with her instrument to buff allies, summon a powerful monster, and more

These moves can really change the outcome of a battle, but be careful, because it comes with a cost! Your hero will lose health points using those!

More Classes and Character Progression

Nintendo showcased the class system as well. Depending on your class, it will change your stats, the weapons you can use, and even your range of movements.

Classes are also divided into three different tiers, with each having access to different classes:

  • Beginner – Your foundation. There are a total of 5 beginner classes, such as:
    • Gladiator
    • Diviner
    • Ornius Rider
  • Speciality – These have more specific abilities, and there are over 10 Speciality classes. Here are a few examples:
    • Armored Knight
    • Wing Soldier
    • Charioteer
  • Advanced – These classes are the masters of their skills. They tend to be a combination of two different “sub-classes”, such as spear + magic, for example. You can find things like:
    • Cataphract
    • Guardian
    • Elephant Rider
    • Dragoon

So you will definitely have plenty of choice when it comes to classes!

Explore the Capital and Beyond

The game also offers a lot more to do than just fighting. Outside of combat, you can prepare for what is to come, or spend time exploring the city or the world, where you can:

  • Train units
  • Upgrade weapons
  • Accept side quests
  • Recruit new allies
  • Visit temples for temporary battle blessings
  • Build support relationships with companions
  • Collect chests
  • Complete Dungeons
  • And more

You can freely travel across the world map, visit towns, explore dungeons, gather resources, and fight optional skirmishes to strengthen your army before the next Heroic Games match.

A Surprise Time-Travel

The biggest reveal came near the end of the presentation. We are in 1454, and we are five years after the Heroic Games concluded. The world is devastated by the return of the Demon God Balor, and all four heroes have mysteriously vanished. At that point, you take control of the game’s true protagonist, a soul summoned by the goddess Sothis. Using the time-manipulating powers of the goddess Fortuna, you will travel back through time to alter the destinies of the four heroes in an attempt to prevent the world’s destruction.

This time-travel storyline appears to connect every campaign together into one overall story. it is up to you now to face the demon god, change history, and save the world!
