What are the minimum system requirements to play games on AddictingGames.com?

Operating Systems:
- Windows 2000/XP/Vista
- Mac OS X Version 10.4+

Flash Player:
- Flash 8.0+ is required to watch videos and animation on AddictingGames. Get the latest version of Flash Player - it's a free download from Adobe.

Browsers:
- Internet Explorer 6.0+
- Firefox 2+
- Safari 3+

Internet Connection:
- AddictingGames is best experienced with DSL, Cable Modem or LAN.

Troubleshooting

I can't play games on the site, what do I do?

• Please make sure Java/JavaScript and Cookies are enabled in your Internet browser's preferences.
• Ad-blocking software, home firewalls, or other security software (Norton, ZoneAlarm, etc.) may affect the site's performance. Temporarily disable any ad-blockers or firewalls you have running.
• Check the security zone setting of your Internet browser's preferences. If the security is set too high, you will be blocked from accessing more sites.
• Close other applications. Having other programs running can slow down or impair your browser's performance, especially if you're playing a high-requirement game.
• This issue could be caused by your browser trying to access an old and/or broken version of the page. Please clear your browser's cache, refresh the webpage and try it again. Click here for instructions.
• You may also have damage to your Shockwave or Flash Player plug-ins. For instructions of how to re-install your Flash Player plug-in, click here. For instructions of how to re-install your Shockwave Player plug-in, click here.

How do I clear my browser cache?

Internet Explorer

1. Go to Tools > Internet Options
2. Under Temporary Files click the "Delete" button.

Netscape - Windows

1. Go to Edit > Preferences
2. Under Advanced, find "Cache"
3. Click both "Clear" buttons

Firefox - Windows

1. Click Tools > Clear Private Data
2. Check Cache and Offline Website Data
3. Click "Clear Private Data Now"

Firefox - Mac OS

1. In the menu bar, click Tools > Clear Private Data
2. Check Cache and Offline Website Data
3. Click "Clear Private Data Now"

Safari

1. In the menu bar, click Safari > Empty Cache
2. Click "Empty" when prompted to remove the cache

How do I Reinstall my Flash Player plug-in?

1. Download the uninstaller here:
   http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_15511#remove
2. Save the uninstaller to your desktop,
3. Quit/exit any applications you have open.
4. Launch the uninstaller from your desktop
5. Follow the instructions in the dialog boxes that appear.
6. After uninstalling both Players, restart your computer.
7. Reinstall both the Shockwave and Flash Players here:

How do I Reinstall my Shockwave Player plug-in?

Windows:

1. Go to the Control Panel
2. Go to Add/Remove programs
3. Choose Adobe or Macromedia Shockwave Player.
4. Click "Remove"
5. Then, if you use Internet Explorer, delete this folder:
   C:\Windows \system32\Macromed
   .... or
   C:\WINNT\system32\Macromed

OR

Delete these two folders:

C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Common *AND*
C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Director

If you use Netscape, look here:

C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\plugins
to remove this file: "np32dsw.dll".

 

Mac OS:

To uninstall the Shockwave player on a Macintosh OS, run the installer available at:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/#sp

This installer also contains an uninstaller.

Save the uninstaller to your desktop, then quit/exit any applications you have open. Launch the uninstaller from your desktop and follow the instructions in the dialog boxes that appear.

Registration & Login

To become a member on AddictingGames, click the "Register" button in the top right corner of the website. If you are already a member and would like to login to the site, click the "Login" link in the top right corner of the site.

Profiles

AddictingGames members can create their own Profiles on the site. To create a Profile, simply register for AddictingGames, then click the "Profile" link in the top right corner of the site to view and edit your Profile. You can add and edit information on your Profile page at any time.

My Favorites

If you would like to save your favorite games on the site, simply login and click the "Favorite" link on the right side above any game. Your favorite games will appear on your Profile. If you would like to reorder or remove games from your Favorites list, click the "View All/Edit" link in Favorites section on your Profile. From here, you can drag and drop games to rearrange the order they appear on your profile, or click the X button to delete the game from your Favorites list.

Playing High Score Games with Friends

AddictingGames members can compete with their friends in High Score challenges. To find High Score games, click the "Play With Friends" tab in the top nav. To compete with your friends on the site, simply play the game and submit your score to the High Score leaderboard. You will be able to see how you rank compared with your friends, as well as with the entire AddictingGames community. If you choose not to submit your score, your rank will not appear in the leaderboard.

Game Ratings & Reviews

To rate a game, click the thumbs up or thumbs down buttons that appear below each game on the site. To review a game, click the "Write a Review" link below the game, enter your review, and click the "POST" button. You must be a member and logged in to Rate or Review games.

Embed Games

If you would like to post one of our games to your website, go to the Embed Games page find the game you would like to embed, copy the code below the game, and paste the code to your website. Please note that not all games on our site are available for embed.

Search for Games

To search for games on the site, click in the Search field in the top navigation bar, and enter your search term. Next, be sure the drop-down is set to "Games", and then click the Search icon with the magnifying glass button. Your search results will appear on a new page.

Search for Friends

To search for friends on the site, click in the Search field in the top navigation bar, enter your friend's username, first and last name, or email address. Next, be sure the drop-down is set to "People", and then click the Search icon with the magnifying glass button. Your search results will appear on a new page. If you do not see the results you are looking for, check to make sure you are searching in the correct category (username, first and last name, or email address). You may also want to check with your friend to be sure you are spelling his or her information correctly. The site will only return exact matches to your search for usernames or email addresses.

AddictingGames Profiles

Creating a Profile

To create a Profile, simply register for AddictingGames, then click the "Profile" link in the top right corner of the site to view and edit your Profile. You can add and edit information on your Profile page at any time.

Uploading a Profile Photo

To upload a photo to your profile, click the Add/Edit Photo link on your Profile page. Click the "Browse" button to find the photo you would like to use on your desktop, then click the "Upload" button.  To crop your photo, drag the box around the area you would like to select and click the "Apply" button. You can change your photo at any time.

If you're having trouble uploading a photo, try one of the following:

• We allow users to upload photos that are 1MB or less. If your photo is larger than 1MB, try using photo editing software to crop the picture or lower the resolution, making it a smaller file size.
• We only accept JPG, GIF, or PNG files. Be sure you are uploading one of these file types.
• Make sure that you've selected the correct location of the photo on your computer to upload from.
• Try using a different browser. Sometimes photo uploads work better on different browsers.

Adding Friends

To add a friend on AddictingGames, click the "Add Friend" button on h Profile Page. This will send them a Friend Request. They must accept the Friend Request before you will be connected as friends on the site.

Your friends on the site can see your Profile, play against you in High Score games, and leave comments on your Profile page.

Removing Friends

To remove someone as a friend, go to your Profile and click the "Friends" link in the top navigation. Click the "Remove Friend" link for any friends you would like to remove from your Friends List. People will never be notified if you choose to remove them as a friend.

My AddictingGames URL

AddictingGames members can select a personal URL for their Profile to share with their friends. Select your own URL from the Profile & Account Info page. Your selection must be alpha numeric, no longer than 32 characters, and cannot be changed, so be sure to select carefully. Once you have selected your personal URL, send it to your friends to share your AddictingGames profile!

My Favorites

If you would like to save your favorite games on the site, simply login and click the "Favorite" link on the right side above any game. Your favorite games will appear on your Profile. If you could like to reorder or remove games from your Favorites list, click the "View All/Edit" link in Favorites section on your Profile. From here, you can drag and drop games to rearrange the order they appear on your profile, or click the X button to delete the game from your Favorites list.

Profile Comments

To leave a comment for a friend, go to the Comments section on their Profile page, type your message in the Comments box and click the "Post" button. You must be friends with a member in order to leave them a comment.

High Score Games

How Do I Appear in a Game's High Score Leaderboard?

AddictingGames members can compete with their friends in High Score challenges. To find High Score games, click the "Play With Friends" tab in the top nav. To compete with your friends on the site, simply play the game and submit your score to the High Score leaderboard. You will be able to see how you rank compared to your friends, as well as the entire AddictingGames community. If you choose not to submit your score, your rank will not appear in the leaderboard.

What is the Friends Leaderboard?

The Friends Leaderboard shows your friends scores in a game. If you do not have any friends on the site, you will not see any scores here. To see your friends' scores here, you should find your friends on AddictingGames and add them as friends on the site.

Keeping My Scores Private

If you would like to keep your scores private, do not submit your score at the end of a High Score game. Your high score will not be saved and will not appear in the High Score leaderboard.

Challenging Friends

If you would like to invite your friends to compete with you in a High Score game, click the invite link at the bottom of the leaderboard on any High Score game. Your friend will receive an email to notify them that you have invited them to play the game.

High Score Email Notifications

If you beat a friend's score in any High Score game, you will be prompted to notify your friends so they can try to beat your new high score. To notify your friends that you beat them, click the OK button at the end of the game. If you do not wish to notify your friends that you beat them, simply click the "No Thanks" link and they will not receive a notification.

Account Information

Cancel My Account

To cancel your AddictingGames account at any time, follow the steps below:

• Go to the My Account page
• At the bottom of the page, click the link "Click here to cancel your AddictingGames account".
• Enter your password
• Select "Yes, I want to cancel my account"

*Note: When you cancel your account, you permanently lose your entire profile, photos, high scores, favorite games, and all your friends on AddictingGames. Your login and password will no longer work on the site. If you change your mind, you may re-register with the same email account, but you will have to create your profile from scratch.

Forgot My Password

If you forget your password, follow the steps below to receive a password reminder:

• Click the "Login" link in the top navigation
• Click the "Forgot Password" link
• Enter the email addressed you used to register for AddictingGames
• Click the "Submit" button
• Check your email account for an email from AddictingGames with your password reminder. It should arrive within a few minutes

Safety & Privacy

Profile Privacy

When you create a Profile on AddictingGames, other members can view the information you include on your Profile. However, you have the option to make your Profile private. This means that other members who are not your friends on AddictingGames will only be allowed to view the basic elements of your Profile which include your username, profile image, "member since" date, personal URL, age and gender. You can also opt to keep your age and gender private. Only your friends will be able to see your high scores, friends, comments, status and "about me" information. If you would like to make your Profile private, go to "My Account" in the top navigation bar. Click on the "Privacy" tab, click Edit in the section "Show My Profile Page to" and select "Only Friends".

Keeping My High Scores Private

If you would like to keep your scores private, do not submit your score at the end of a High Score game. Your high score will not be saved and will not appear in the High Score leaderboard.

Reporting Site Abuse

If at any time you that a member has posted illegal or offensive content on AddictingGames, look for the little red flag and click the "Report" link to notify our site moderators. Please report responsibly. Reporting for no good reason will count against you.
